On Concept Vocabulary: Economisting

Edward Tufte, most known for being the author of The Visual Display of Quantitative Information, is also the one who coined the term, economisting. It is not flattering to the root of the word, economy, though it may have been intentional.

1. The act or process of converting limited evidence into grand claims by means of rhetorical ploys, especially punning, multiplicity of meaning, and ever reaching.
2. The belief or practice that empirical evidence can only confirm and never disconfirm a favored theory.
3. Conclusions that are theory-driven, not evidence-based

It seems like a good concept vocabulary to know as we approach the circus that is the peak of the election season in the U.S.
