…because some thoughts are worth remembering
“Amigos e livros, querem-se poucos e bons” is a Portuguese proverb which means “of friends and books, we want few and good ones”.
In a world where there seems to be increasing pressure to have more and do more, the Portuguese saying narrows in on what’s important: the quality over quantity. Science is just catching up, demonstrating evidence that people tend to be happier with fewer options.
When moving from place to place, it forces you to take a break from blind accumulation of “stuff” to evaluating what significance each item contributes to your life, or better yet, not accumulate at all for the sake of having more.
