Sticky Notes of Thoughts

…because some thoughts are worth remembering

On Vocabulary: Apophasis

A maneuver often used by politicians, apophasis is “the raising of an issue by claiming not to mention it”. I like learning words that represent a concept. With this word, I think about if there is a graphic (vs. verbal) version of it: can you present an image pretending to not show it? Can you have a musical version of it? How is apophasis used to persuade someone (or is it simply a way to sneak in a jab with the illusion of innocence in tact)? 2009-11-05 17.50.35
