On Being an Emigrant: A Traveler’s Thought (Japan 2013)

Trips to Japan for me as an emigrant are bittersweet. I felt it even more strongly before this trip (not having time to get the “mom-approved haircut” before I left) but walking into a stylish bookstore (with pens from all over the world displayed like museum pieces from floor to ceiling) and wanting to just stay in the store for the rest of the morning reminded me that I will always be Japanese.
